Honour: V. Ramasubramanian, Judge, Madras High Court, handing over a certificate to a student of Srimad Andavan College of Arts and Science in Tiruchi on Friday.

TIRUCHI: Students should aim to excel in whatever subject they choose with an understanding that there were possibilities to reach top positions in all fields. The competition was only at the lower level, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Judge, Madras High Court, said, addressing the 13th College Day of Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College on Friday.

The onus was on the individual to determine the extent to which they could penetrate their success. One who does not lose composure in difficult situations would win. Justice Ramasubramanian was critical of the educational system, pointing out that it has failed to provide scope for self-thinking.

Lauding the college management for catering to the academic requirements of the economic and socially deprived sections of the society, he emphasised that social or economic background is immaterial for success. More than the marks they score, it is only the confidence to overcome obstacles that helps students to succeed in their lives, he said.

Justice Ramasubramanian honoured meritorious students and teachers with prizes and certificates in the presence of the College Correspondent and Secretary V.S. Narasimhan. Offering felicitations, C.R. Ravichandran, Trustee, Sri Ranganatha Paduka Vidyalaya Trust, and former Chief Commissioner, Department of Income Tax, explained the research initiatives taken by the college to safeguard herbal wealth. The Chairman of SRPV Trust G. Rangachari presided over.

Presenting the annual report, Principal K. Prema said the herbal research was being conducted in a way that would benefit people in villages. The College was adjudged the best among self-financing colleges by the Bharathidasan University for the third consecutive year at BARD-FEST, an inter-collegiate cultural competition, she said.
