Abductors drop kidnapped twins within two hours

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Rural Police rescued twins S. Santhosh and S. Vignesh, aged 12 years, within a span of two hours after they were allegedly kidnapped by their own uncle near here on Thursday.

The rescued boys, both studying sixth standard in a private school at BHEL, were handed over to their father S. Subramaniam at the District Police Office here.

The police have arrested Subramaniam’s own brother Anand on the charge of kidnapping the boys and demanding Rs. 50 lakh as ransom to release the twins.

A hunt is on to apprehend Ashok alias Venkatesan, another brother of Subramaniam.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, the Superintendent of Police, A. Kaliyamurthy, said he received information about the kidnap from Chidambaram, the grandfather of the boys on Thursday.

The kidnappers called up Chidambaram from a mobile phone demanding Rs. 50 lakh as ransom with a warning that the twins would be eliminated if the money was not paid.

The SP said he himself contacted the mobile number from which the call came and warned the kidnappers that stern action would be initiated against them if the boys were not released.

Subsequently, the kidnapped boys were dropped at Tiruvanaikoil Main Road by the abductors.

Investigations revealed that Subramaniam’s own brother Ashok and Anand had conspired and kidnapped the boys following a property dispute with their father and their brother, he said.

The SP said it was Ashok who took the boys in a two-wheeler from the school.

Two special teams have been formed to apprehend Ashok.

The BHEL police have registered a case.
