David Hussey propels Australia to a challenging score

JOHANNESBURG: David Hussey smashed an unbeaten 88 off 44 balls to guide Australia to 166 for seven against South Africa in their Twenty20 international here on Friday.

Hussey hit five fours and six sixes after coming to the wicket with the score on 16 for two.

The only other batsman to make a meaningful contribution was opener David Warner who hit four fours and a six in his 38.

Dramatic over

Australia lost some impetus in the middle of its innings when three wickets fell in the 10th over bowled by left-arm spinner Robin Peterson.

Off the first ball, Peterson held a low return catch from Warner. Michael Hussey was then run out for zero by a direct throw to the bowler’s end from Johan Botha, and Brad Haddin was caught at deep mid-off for zero by Albie Morkel off the over’s last ball. Hussey kept the scoreboard ticking, as Australia took 32 off fast bowler Dale Steyn’s last two overs at the end of the innings.

Peterson took three for 30 and Wayne Parnell claimed two for 29 after bowling Michael Clarke for two in the second over of the innings. — AP
