ICING ON THE CAKE: The members of National-winning State volleyball teams were felicitated in Chennai on Friday.

CHENNAI: The members of various National-winning volleyball teams of Tamil Nadu were felicitated at a function organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

The evening saw winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded cash vouchers worth Rs. 1,000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 respectively.

The Tamil Nadu teams of various age-categories had garnered four gold, four silver and two bronze medals in National competitions this past season.

The president of the Tamil Nadu State Volleyball Association, K. Murugan, said that the sport had always been popular in the State. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Secretary for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, R. Christodas Gandhi, lauded the role of private colleges in promoting sports in the State.
