Women’s Day celebrated

Udhagamandalam: Under the aegis of the Federation of Self-Help Groups in Nanjanad and Ithalar panchayats, International Women’s Day was celebrated at Appukode near here recently.

Addressing the gathering, Khadi Board Minister K. Ramachandran urged the members of various SHGs to go in for new vocations. He added that they should evolve ways to augment the income of their families.

The Director, Tamil Nadu Women Development Organisation, N.K. Perumal, who presided over the function, said that about 70 lakh women were part of the SHG movement in Tamil Nadu. Prompt repayment of bank loans was one of the strong points of the SHGs. Head of Appukode village Sunderrajan and Ithalar panchayat president Rukumani spoke.
