UDF’s anti-Maudany stance a hoax: BJP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary M.T. Ramesh said here on Saturday that the former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy owed an apology to the people for taking the lead in passing a unanimous resolution in the Assembly seeking the release of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany from jail where he was interned as an under trial prisoner in connection with the Coimbatore bomb blast.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Ramesh said Mr. Chandy, who was also in charge of the Home portfolio when he was the Chief Minister, should also own up responsibility for the failure of the police to take action against Mr. Maudany’s wife Sufia Maudany in spite of “evidence pointing to her links” with a group of terrorists who had burnt a bus at Kalamasserry during the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government rule. Mr. Ramesh said the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) were now attacking Mr. Maudany and his party in the hope that the UDF could exploit the public anger against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-(M)) for aligning with the PDP. Neither Mr. Chandy nor the State Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala had the moral right to take this position.
