Sankara Nethralaya’s NAVASUJA clinic celebrates fifth anniversary

CHENNAI: The NAVASUJA Sankara Nethralaya multi-specialty ophthalmology clinic celebrated five years of “mission for vision” on Saturday. The multi-specialty Ophthalmology clinic has delivered eye care services “to the doorstep” of people in South Chennai, according to Senior Consultant Vineet Ratra, who is in charge of the NAVASUJA centre.

He said NAVASUJA’s 10 full-fledged optometrists have provided comprehensive eye examinations matching global standards for over 75,000 patients to improve eye care in Chennai. Additionally, the centre offers glaucoma, cataract, and inter-ocular examinations, treatment, and surgeries all under one roof. About 78 per cent of the data that humans process are received through the eyes. The high prevalence of diabetes in India makes Indians susceptible to eye complications such as glaucoma and cataract formation. However, Dr. Ratra specifically highlighted the newest concern for ophthalmologist– Computer Vision Syndrome –which is caused by people spending too much time in front of the computer. Chief guest Poet Vairamuthu agreed that computer use among the younger generation and its necessity in professional spheres were becoming an increasing concern for physicians. He said people often take the senses for granted, but they should take care of their eyes because it is the organ with which one can experience the world. He commended the NAVASUJA team in their humanitarian efforts.
