Temperatures fall in North


Following rain in several parts of Punjab & Haryana


Chandigarh: Rains lashed many parts of Punjab and Haryana since yesterday for the third time in the past one week causing mercury to fall by a few notches. Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, Rohtak, Ambala and Hisar were lashed by rains, the Meteorological Department said here on Saturday.

The minimum at Amritsar today dropped to 11.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees below the normal range.

The low at Patiala, with a downpour at 34.4 mm, settled at 12.2 C, four degrees below normal.

Ludhiana recorded a minimum of 12.7 C. Chandigarh received 7 mm of rain. The low here was recorded at 13.8 C.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a minimum of 12.1 C, down four notches.

The minimum at Rohtak settled at 13.2 C, down one while the minimum at Narnaul was 14.5 C.

Farmers worried

Meanwhile, the rains during the past week has got the farmers of the region worried as wet weather threatens to not only cause delay in the harvesting of ripe wheat crop but also lead to problems in its procurement and storage.

A few days back, the Punjab Government had ordered special revenue survey in the State to assess the damage caused to wheat due to rains and windy weather. -- PTI
