I am not a tourist, says Madan Lal

Staff Correspondent

“I belong to Himachal…my ancestral home is here”

SHIMLA: The newly declared candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Hamirpur, veteran cricketer Madan Lal, on Saturday hit back at the BJP for labelling him a “tourist” who had come to the hill State just to fight elections.

Talking to the media persons here, he said his ancestral home was here and his parents and other relatives for generations had lived in Himachal Pradesh and he was a native of Adri village in Hamirpur.

The seasoned cricketer, who can still give youngsters a run for their money in physical fitness and cool temperament, also brushed aside the sole contribution of Anurag Thakur, the BJP candidate from Hamirpur and son of Chief Minister Dhumal, in making a cricket stadium in Dharamsala. “The rich BCCI can fund any amount for making such grounds,” he said.

If elected, he said, he would work for uplift of other sports also in the hill State. “It is the marketing of cricket which has taken it to such heights and other sports lag behind,” he maintained.
