The ‘little more’ way to success

Staff Reporter

KOMARAPALAYAM: ‘A little more’ is the way to success and that is what has brought me to be the project director of India’s first moon mission, Mylswami Annadurai has said.

Addressing the students of SSM College of Engineering at its annual day on Saturday, he said a little more devotion to studies, a little more time spent on improving handwriting, a little more effort in understanding the subject and little more effort in excelling others had stood him in good stead.

Recalling how he learnt the lesson, Mr. Annadurai said he learnt it from his father who advised his siblings and him to be better than the village students. That was the only thing that kept me going, for things were very different those days. My schoolmates and I had to take turns to clean the elementary school of cow dung to attend classes and then to attend middle school we had to tread 10 km a day.He told the students that today things were much different and exciting opportunities awaited them. India is developing and the growth presents tremendous opportunities to you, which you should grab.

On engineering education, Mr. Annadurai said the duty of engineering colleges was not to just churn out graduates. The colleges’ job should be to create engineers who can dream and innovate and for that to happen, college should be a source of inspiration, he said.

He then urged the students to learn the art of working in a team and said Chandrayaan was a team work involving about 3,000 scientists. College Chairman M.S. Mathivanan said the students should possess confidence, competence and compassion and said the three would help them succeed in life.

College Principal A. Subramaniam presented the annual report. Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering P.R. Manigandan proposed the vote of thanks.
