KOLLAM: Retail outlets of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) all over the country will soon have cashew kiosks. An agreement in this connection was signed by Managing Director of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) K.A. Ratheesh and Kerala region chief of HPCL Shuvendu Gupta in Thiruvananthapuram on March 25. The first kiosk under the tie-up was inaugurated by KSCDC Chairman E. Kazim at the Kowdiar outlet of the HPCL in Thiruvananthapuram the same day. Dr. Ratheesh told The Hindu that plain cashew and all value-added products of the KSCDC would be available at the kiosks. “There are about 8,400 HPCL outlets all over the country and the tie-up aims at opening KSCDC kiosks at all these outlets in a phased manner.” The venture is part of a KSCDC business strategy to reach out to the people by expanding the domestic market. Each kiosk, which costs Rs.6,000, is installed by the KSCDC, he said. The petrol pump concerned will be given a commission on the sales. The price range of the products that will be available through the kiosks is Rs.12 to Rs.700. There are also gift packets with a price tag that ranges from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000. Dr. Ratheesh said that in the current financial year, the KSCDC registered a turnover of Rs.140 crore.
