Workshop on bioinformatics

KOZHIKODE: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) will organise a one-day workshop on bioinformatics on the institute campus, near here, on Wednesday.

Bioinformatics has been in focus following the successful completion of the Human Genome Project.

Research in bioinformatics has paved the way for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer and resulted in innovative techniques such as computer-aided drug design.

Mathew J. Palakal, professor of Computer Science and Director, Informatics Research Institute, Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis, U.S., will speak on the topic ‘Information management and text mining in bioinformatics’ at the workshop.
