KPCC demands ‘quick response’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has sought a quick response from the government to the Governor’s letter on the CBI request for permission to prosecute the accused in the SNC Lavalin case.

At a news conference here on Sunday, KPCC spokesperson M.M. Hassan and general secretary Ajay Tharayil accused the Advocate-General of political bias in the handling of the Lavalin case. The response of the government should be time-bound and the Chief Minister must ensure that the AG did not play politics in the case, they said.

Mr. Hassan said the KPCC fully welcomed the Chief Minister’s statement that the guilty in the Lavalin case would be punished. However, a deliberate move was afoot to delay investigation in the case.

The Congress leaders also accused the LDF leadership of misusing the official machinery and cited the dinner meeting, reportedly hosted by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim at Kozhikode recently as a clear instance for this. The KPCC would take this up with the Election Commission since it amounted to violation of poll code, they said.

Coming down heavily on the CPI(M)-PDP tie-up, Mr. Hassan said that the sharing of platform by leaders of the two parties and the CPI(M) bid to secure PDP votes smacked of opportunism.

Although the CPI(M) was now trying to create the impression that the PDP was not part of the LDF, everybody knew that PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany was doing so with clear objectives as could be seen from the freezing of the investigation into Mr. Maudany’s alleged terror links, he said.
