DUBAI: Saudi Arabia’s Interior Minster Prince Nayef has been appointed as second Deputy Prime Minister, third in the political hierarchy after King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and his half-brother and Defence Minister Prince Sultan. “His Royal Highness Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz has been appointed second Deputy Prime Minister,” the state run SPA stated. Prince Nayef has been elevated to the post which had been lying vacant after King Abdullah ascended the thrown following the death of King Fahd. Prince Sultan was then named first Deputy Prime Minister. King Abdullah, who is in his mid-eighties, is also the Prime Minister. Prince Sultan, who was born in 1928, is currently in New York recovering from his second operation for an unnamed illness.
