Panaji: The Congress-NCP camp is witnessing political activities over the North Goa Parliament seat, which is likely to be contested by the NCP. With the Congress high command declaring Fransisco Sardinha as the South Goa candidate, a series of meetings are scheduled to decide the NCP candidate for North Goa. Sources confirmed that the former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president, Nirmala Sawant, Congress Minister Manohar Asgaonkar and the former Congress Minister, Jitendra Deshprabhu, were in the race in from North Goa seat to contest on the NCP ticket. Mr. Sawant has already left Congress and is an independent, Mr. Asgaonkar and Deshprabhu are reportedly vying for the NCP ticket from North. Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar, NCP Goa Chief Wilfred de Souza, NCP legislators and a few Congress legislators, including Pratapsing Rane and Vishwajit Rane, are likely to participate in the meeting. Message not receivedMeanwhile, the Congress leaders in Goa said on Sunday that they were yet to receive the formal communication from Delhi declaring Fransisco Sardinha as South Goa candidate. “May be being Sunday the offices are closed and we will get the fax on Monday,” the Goa Congress chief said. MGP candidateThe Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has said that they will finalise the name of their candidates in a day. “We are contesting both the seats,” MGP President Pandurang Raut told PTI. MGP is a coalition partner in Congress-led state government. — PTI
