Maneka sees political conspiracy

Pilibhit (U.P.): BJP MP Maneka Gandhi on Sunday said registration of cases against her son Varun Gandhi was part of a “political conspiracy.”

“The registration of cases against him is part of a political conspiracy. It is frivolous. Varun Gandhi is not a criminal. It is incorrect to register cases against him,” she said, after meeting her son in the district jail here.

Accompanied by BJP’s Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha Santosh Gangwar and the former Uttar Pradesh Minister Dharampal Singh, she spent 15 minutes with Mr. Gandhi, who has been remanded to judicial custody till Monday after he courted arrest on Saturday in a case against him for his anti-Muslim speeches.

Mr. Gangwar said: “The contents of the CD have not yet been authenticated and the forensic report is still awaited. The picture will be clear after that. Therefore, Mr. Gandhi cannot be called a culprit and cases cannot be registered against him. The BJP fully supports him.” — PTI
