Policeman held for murder of niece
A head constable attached to Oomachikulam police station in Madurai district has been arrested on charge of murdering his niece, also with the police.
N. Rajasekaran, Superintendent of Police, said on Sunday that Palanivel (44) killed his brother’s daughter Velvizhi (27), attached to 6th battalion in Madurai, and threw her head in a well near Poovandhi in Sivaganga district and the torso near Kovanur on March 11.
The thrice-married Palanivel, who left his first wife a few years ago, did this to prevent Velvizhi from marrying his first wife’s brother. A car and sickle were also seized from the accused.
