‘Common agenda’ for Third Front: Gowda

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: The election manifesto of the Third Front will reflect the “common agenda” of all its constituents, even while the individual parties will have their own manifesto,” former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda has said.

Talking to presspersons here on Sunday, he said the Third Front would try its best to give a push to the economy. The manifesto would be released by April 3 or April 4 .

Responding to questions on the growing differences among the constituents of the UPA, Mr. Gowda said the problems in the UPA started soon after Third Front came into existence. The very objective of the Third Front was to provide a viable alternative to the BJP and the Congress.

He said the regional parties, who had identified themselves with the three major coalitions, were keen on improving their tally in their respective States.

He reiterated that the issue of the prime ministerial candidate would be decided only after the poll results.

On finalising the JD(S) candidates in some constituencies, he said it would be done in a two or three days.

Later, he addressed party workers in the city and at Chikkodi. He will address party workers in Dharwad and Haveri and complete his first round of meetings with workers in the Mumbai-Karnataka region, on Monday.

Before returning to Bangalore, he will address party workers in Davangere on Tuesday.

At Belgaum, the former Congress MLA N.V. Patil of Ramdurg and Kalyanrao Muchalambi, one of the State general secretaries of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, joined the JD(S).
