Tasteless food - Reader's Mail

Sir, — I travelled by the Yeswantpur-Kachiguda Express train to Hyderabad on March 19. While most passengers wanted fresh sambar and curd rice packets, the vendors from the pantry car served bland “biryani” which no one relished. On my return journey on March 22 by the same train, the same story repeated. The same vendors kept disturbing the passengers till 11 p.m. shouting “biryani”. In the morning of March 23, the same vendors took orders for breakfast. It consisted of idlis and small vadas, obviously prepared the previous day. Before these pantry services were introduced, one could get good and fresh south Indian food at the Dharmavaram station. Are the authorities concerned unaware of this?

Sir, — Many trees were transplanted around the Puttehanahalli Lake about three months ago. However, no attention was paid to protect them. Now, these trees are perishing. I request the Forest Department to save these trees immediately.

Sir, — The Voter Facilitation Centres (VFCs) in Bangalore are themselves in all sorts of confusion as they are over-burdened and do not have proper information about EPICs, even as elections are just round the corner. It appears that many more will be denied an opportunity to cast their votes this time too. The returning officers must come out with an action plan and avoid the rush and confusion in these centres.

Sir, — The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has made a mess of many roads in Ramachandrapura (Jalahalli PO) while constructing drains on both sides of the main roads and sub-crosses. I was shocked to see the damage that the workers have caused on the 6th and 7th cross streets while building the drain. For the last 10 days, big cement slabs and cement bricks are lying on the road, making it difficult for residents to walk. I hope the BBMP lays these roads well after the drains are constructed.

Sir, — Owing to poor patronage, several new Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation routes are being revised by traffic experts and officials. But it is not known if commuters affected by these services have been consulted. It is the demand of commuters that services being extended to Majestic and Shivajinagar bus stands be routed via the city railway station and the cantonment station, as the subway between the city station and the Kempe Gowda Bus Terminus is in poor shape.
