BANGALORE: This weekend, lovers of electronic music will have a chance to watch one of the most influential and innovative bands in the genre. Mouse on Mars, Germany’s most influential and innovative electronica band, will perform live on April 4, along with Bangalore’s The Bobbleheads, featuring Archana Prasad and Tanvi Rao, at 9.30 p.m. at the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. Mouse on Mars, featuring Jan St. Werner (effects, keyboard), Andi Toma (ditto) and Dodo Nkishi (percussion) was founded in 1993 by the first two. The band is either completely unknown or praised to the skies, reviled or revered. In a word, they are pioneers, being the first to spread the word abroad about Germany’s booming electronic scene, which had long since emerged from the shadow of its overlords, the band Kraftwerk. Mouse on Mars chalked up successes in England, Japan and the U.S. where, as in Germany, they surprised by refusing to conform to the prevailing cliché of nerdy electro-tinkers. Specifically and especially music which, like theirs, by and large does without words. Entry is free: standing room only. Log on to www.goethe.de/bangalore
