Decision to field Vijayashankar is final, says Yeddyurappa

Rumours had it that Made Gowda may replace him

Vijayashankar to file papers on April 3

VIRAJPET (KODAGU DISTRICT): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday spiked rumours about a change of party candidate from the Mysore Lok Sabha constituency, saying the decision on fielding C.H. Vijayashankar is final.

He was speaking to presspersons after addressing party workers here. The names of the party candidates for which clearance had been obtained from the party leadership would not be reversed under any circumstances, Mr. Yeddyurappa asserted.

He was replying to presspersons in the wake of reports appearing in a section of the media that former MLC D. Made Gowda could be fielded from the Mysore Lok Sabha constituency, which covers two Assembly segments in Kodagu district as well.

“Mr. Vijayashankar is the unanimous candidate of the party,” he added. Mr. Yeddyurappa said that Mr. Vijayashankar would file his nomination papers on April 3.

To another question, whether Operation Lotus was still on, he said that it was not so. It is the result of the “political polarisation that was taking place in the State”. Several leaders and workers from other parties had joined the BJP in the recent days. The “failures” of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre and groupism in the Congress had led to such a development.

Mr. Yeddyurappa indicated that many leaders of other parties were set to join the BJP and one should wait for the elections to be over.

On the reported comments of senior BJP leader, Rama Bhat, who had evinced interest to “rebuilding” the erstwhile Jan Sangh, Mr. Yeddyurappa said he would not comment on the issue. Mr. Bhat had reportedly expressed himself against Operation Lotus under which sincere party workers were being sidelined.
