LUCKNOW: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi was on Monday granted bail in two cases related to alleged hate speeches he delivered in the constituency between March 8 and 9. He will, however, remain incarcerated as he has been booked under the National Security Act by the Uttar Pradesh government. The verdict granting bail to Mr. Gandhi was delivered by Chief Judicial Magistrate of Pilibhit Bipin Kumar. For security reasons, the hearing was conducted in the district jail, where he is lodged. Mr. Gandhi was represented by his lawyers, Samarjeet Singh and Siddhartha Luthra. Plan to shift Varun?Sources said that following the bail verdict, a proposal to shift Mr. Gandhi to some other jail in the State was sent to the Home Department by the district administration. Home Secretary Kumar Kamlesh, at a routine press briefing, however, denied that there was a proposal to shift Mr. Gandhi. He said adequate security arrangements had been made in the district to check any untoward incident. Meanwhile, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha observed a ‘black day’ in protest against invoking the NSA against Mr. Gandhi.
