Body on way to cemetery seized, sent for autopsy

CHENNAI: The body of a 43-year-old man, who died on Friday, was sent for autopsy by the Villivakkam police even as it was being taken to a cemetery the next day.

The police action followed a complaint by the brother-in-law of the deceased. In his complaint, Isaivaanan said that he found cut injuries on the body of Socretes and suspected foul play.

According to Villivakkam police, they took possession of the body just as it was being taken to the cemetery. The body was sent to Government Kilpauk Hospital for autopsy. After the body was handed over to the family on Sunday after the autopsy, the last rites were performed. Police have registered a case of unnatural death under IPC Section 174 and are awaiting results of the autopsy.
