Three arrested, valuables recovered

CHENNAI: Mylapore police have arrested three persons in connection with several chain snatching incidents and recovered gold jewellery, mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop from them.
According to the police, two of the three arrested had been released from jail sometime ago. One of them, M. Saravana Kumar (26), a resident of Mohammed Hussain Street, Royapettah, has seven cases registered against him.
A college girl, who was a victim of chain snatching, provided clues to the police in the form of the registration number of the motorcycle used by Saravana Kumar for committing the crime. Based on the information, the police traced him and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs.2 lakh.
Vinod alias Vinod Kumar (32) of Kapali Thottam, who had earlier been detained under the Goondas Act was caught when the police recovered his mobile phone that he had left behind in a women’s hostel on Luz Church Road. Twenty sovereigns of gold jewellery, a laptop, a digital camera and mobile phones were recovered from him.
On Sunday, an autorickshaw driver Suresh, who attempted to snatch a gold chain from a two year old child at a marriage hall, was caught by the guests at the function and handed over to the police. A gold chain of 2.5 sovereigns was recovered from him.
All three persons were remanded to judicial custody, police said.
