HYDERABAD: There was a mad rush for filing papers on Monday as nominations closed for the first phase of polling. There was a lot of confusion as the seat sharing exercise of the Grand Alliance partners got delayed and there were last minute change of candidates. Most candidates took out huge processions throwing traffic haywire. Candidates who made to the office of Returning Officers by 3 p.m. were allowed and the process of filing nomination went up to 5 p.m. and beyond at some places. A total of 294 nominations were filed in the twin cities taking the total to 415. Jubilee Hills constituency saw a maximum of 28 nominations followed by Goshamahal (25), Nampally (24) and Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency (23). Notable among those who filed nomination on Monday were Mukesh Goud, Minister for B.C. Welfare, from Goshamahal, D. Nagender, Greater Hyderabad Congress president, from Khairatabad, Praja Rajyam youth wing general secretary, D. Sravan from Secunderabad LS constituency and Siasat Editor Zahid Ali Khan from Hyderabad LS constituency. Election authorities said 250 nominations were filed in the Rangareddy district taking the total to 408 nominations. Chinna Srisailam Yadav, one-time close aide of former legislator P. Janardhan Reddy, filed his nomination as Majlis candidate from Jubilee Hills constituency. He is the second non-Muslim candidate to be fielded by the Majlis, the other one being Muralidhar Reddy from Rajendernagar constituency. The Majlis has fielded its former corporator, Ahmed Balala from Malakpet and Asifnagar MLA, Mohd. Moazzam Khan, from Bahadurpura constituency. Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Qaudri is contesting again from this constituency. All of them filed their papers Monday. Former Mayor T. Krishna Reddy filed his papers in Maheshwaram constitituency in Rangareddy. In Amberpet constituency, former Minister C. Krishna Yadav filed his papers as an independent candidate. Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi took out a motorcycle rally from Chandrayangutta the MRO office at Bandlaguda where he filed his nomination. There were some anxious moments when the MBT’s Chandrayangutta candidate, Khayam Khan, also came in a rally to file nomination. Mr. Zahid Ali Khan came in a procession from his election office in Jullu Khana, Laad Bazaar.
