dated April 1, 1959: Tibetan deputation

Prime Minister Nehru told a Tibetan deputation which met him in New Delhi on March 31, he hoped that the “present difficulties in Tibet would end peacefully.” The deputation which sought an interview for conveying their feelings in regard to the present Tibetan situation was also told by Mr. Nehru “India was in no position to intervene in Tibet and in fact would not like to take any step which might aggravate the situation there.” The deputation consisted partly of persons of Tibetan origin domiciled in India and partly of Tibetan nationals.
