DEHRA DUN: Silenced on the support withdrawal issue by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand, alliance partner Uttarakhand Kranti Dal suffered a major setback as Champi Arya, its candidate from the Almora- Pithoragargh Lok Sabha seat, quit the party and accepted the invitation to contest the polls on the Nationalist Congress Party ticket. Announcing her decision to contest on the NCP ticket on Monday, Ms Arya said that she had quit the UKD as its leadership was adopting a dual policy. “First they loudly threatened to withdraw support from the Khanduri Government as it had failed to fulfil the dreams of the Uttarakhand activists but reversed their stand after a closed door meeting with BJP big wigs in Dehra Dun. Why?” Ms Arya asked adding that the UKD had lost all legitimacy to be called a party of activists. Senior UKD leader, Kashi Singh Airi told The Hindu that they would wait for a few more days for the BJP to give them one seat or else put up candidates in all the five constituencies.
