Identify good role models to build a mighty India, students urged

TIRUCHI: Students must possess qualities like meticulous planning, perseverance, hard work, obedience, self-confidence and good communication skills to make achievements, M. Bava Mohideen, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Tiruchi, said on Monday.

Addressing the 58th College Day celebrations of Jamal Mohamed College, he emphasised on the vital role of teachers in shaping the overall personality of students. On their part, students must identify good role models to develop their life skills, thereby performing their role for building a mighty India, he said.

An alumnus, Prof. Mohideen honoured meritorious students with 245 prizes on the occasion in the presence of Principal M. Sheik Mohamed and College Management committee secretary M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor.

Abdul Riyaz. A of BCA, the top ranking graduate for 2008, received the Khajamian Gold Medal. T. Sakthivel of M.Sc. Zoology was honoured with the special prize for securing first rank in the university examinations.

A service Gold Medal, instituted by the former NSS Officer and Professor of English R. Panchanathan, for the outstanding NSS volunteer of the year was given to V. Senthil Nathan, and Arjuna of Jamal Award was given to A. Jithesh of II MSW.

Delivering the special address on the occasion, G.M. Akbar Ali, High Court Judge Designate and Member Secretary, National Legal Service Authority, New Delhi, also an alumnus, urged students to convert their dreams into reality making the best use of their college days. Students, he said, must be equipped with leadership qualities to meet higher challenges in a constantly changing environment.
