VISAKHAPATNAM: A total number of 72 out of the 358 nominations filed for the Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Araku Parliamentary constituencies and 15 Assembly constituencies in the district have been rejected for various reasons during scrutiny of nominations held on Tuesday. Among the candidates whose nominations were rejected were rebels, dummy candidates and some independents. In the case of CPI (ML) candidate for Araku Lok Sabha seat Illa Rami Reddy, his nomination in the name of his party had been rejected while the one as independent was accepted. The Bharatiya Janata Party would not be able to have a candidate with its party symbol on the April 16 polling for the Anakapalle Assembly seat as the nominations of its two candidates – P. Venkatagiri Patnaik and P. Naga Veeraswamy – had been rejected as they failed to enclose the required forms with their nominations. Nominations of Earle Sreeramamurthy, who was in the race till the last minute for the Praja Rajyam ticket for Chodavaram Assembly constituency and party rebel Gunuru Yerrunaidu had also been rejected. Thota Vijayalakshmi, who was replaced by the Congress for the Pendurthi Assembly segment after giving her B Form and who later filed her nomination paper for Anakapalle Assembly constituency, found her nominations rejected at both places. At Pendurthy, nomination papers of Parawada MLA Gandi Babji were cleared by the State Election Commission after Ms. Vijayalakshmi raised an objection on the signature on the B Form issued to him. At Araku Valley, nominations of K. Chittinaidu as TDP candidate and S. Kota MLA K. Ravi Babu as Congress candidate have been rejected but their nominations as independents were accepted. Nomination papers of Kidari Sarveswara Rao, whose term as MLC was coming to an end soon, were also rejected. Only for the Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituency, all the nominations filed (13 in number) were found to be in order. Decision on two nominations for Madugula Assembly constituency are pending.
