Kakinada: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Kakinada has entered into a formal understanding with Andhra Pradesh Horticulture University (APHU) at Tadepalligudem, to undertake joint research projects in agriculture and horticulture technologies. JNTU-K Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao has expressed readiness to lend expertise in bio-informatics which can be used to conduct horticultural research and sought the APHU to reciprocate in offering agriculture technology course. Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Prof. Appa Rao said APHU Vice-Chancellor S.D. Shikhamani evinced in collaborative research which would be of mutual benefit and that JNTU-K could pass its technical knowhow in computer science, statistics and communications. These were disciplines which complement horticulture. Prof. Rao said over 1,000 projects across the JNTU-K’s have to be benefited by cooperation of APHU which, like Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, specialises in plant cultivation and propagation, crop production, plant breeding and genetic engineering, plant biochemistry and plant physiology. The modalities of the proposed joint venture are being worked out. The focus is on promoting development and dissemination of technologies by blending traditional wisdom with frontier knowledge.
