New party moves High Court on symbol

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Samrudha Odisha, the newly-formed political party in the State has moved the Orissa High Court seeking a direction to the Election Commissioner for allotting a common election symbol to the party for the ensuing twin polls in the State.

Party’s general secretary Saroj Kumar Padhy has filed a writ seeking the High Court intervention to get ‘Nagara’ (drum) as the party’s common symbol. The petitioner has pointed out that his party as a registered political one has taken part in the urban as well as bye-elections in the State but their application for a common party symbol is still pending disposal at the EC’s office.

The Bench of Justice I.M. Qudusi and Justice Kumari Sanju Panda after admitting the writ has issued notice to the EC asking to file an affidavit stating what action has been taken till date over the party’s application seeking common symbol.
