KOTTAYAM: The United Democratic Front (UDF) will launch an agitation if the State government failed to initiate action in the SNC Lavalin case within the deadline set by the High Court, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said. Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Chennithala said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government was deliberately delaying the process of responding to the Governor. As per the High Court directive, the deadline is May 11. If the government failed to respond before the deadline, the UDF would launch an agitation, he said. The Congress leader alleged that the Advocate-General was adopting tactics to delay action on the Lavalin case and added that he had even challenged the Chief Minister through his actions. “Such degeneration of a Constitutional office was unprecedented,” he said said. Referring to the ties between the People’s Democratic Party and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mr. Chennithala said the UDF was clear about its stance on its attitude towards the PDP leader Abdul Nasir Maudany. While the UDF disapproved of his alleged activities, it had taken the nine-year incarceration as a human rights issue. “I do not believe that Mr. Maudany has changed his attitude after his years in jail,” he said.
