Vignesh advances

HYDERABAD: Top-seeded P. C. Vignesh of Andhra Pradesh warded off spirited challenge from V. Vignesh of Tamil Nadu 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinal of the Circars AITA ranking men’s prize money tennis tournament at Kakinada on Wednesday, according to information received here.

The results: pre-quarterfinals:

Men: Vinod Sridhar bt Shantanu Rajput 6-0, 6-2; Kamala Kannan bt Kamal Surana 6-3, 6-1; Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Ajay Selvaraj 6-2, 6-4; P. C. Vignesh bt V. Vignesh 3-6, 6-3, 6-4; Mithun Murali bt Setu Kannan 6-3, 6-4; Saurav Sukul bt Mahendra Verman 6-0, 6-1; Mohd Fariz bt Kunal Anand 6-3, 6-2; Abhijit Tiwari bt John Carino 6-1, 6-0.

Pravith shines

A fine spell by fast bowler Pravith Kumar (six for eight) helped The Hindu record an emphatic, 141-run win over Google in the Let’s-Vote Corporate League (T-20) cricket championship organised by Think Talent here.

The scores: The Hindu 167 for six bt Google 26 (Pravith Kumar six for eight).

Bank of America 241 for five bt INQB8 82; C3i Inc 53 lost to Deloitte 56 for one.

Microsoft 173 bt HCL 139; Cognizant 89 lost to Infosys 90 for four; ITC 122 for nine lost to Verizon 123 for six.

HDBA selection trials

The Hyderabad District Basketball Association (HDBA) will hold selection trials for boys and girls under 13 years at the YMCA, Secunderabad, on Monday (April 6) from 7 a.m. to pick its squad for the AP inter-district championships at BHEL, Ramachandrapuram, in the last week of April.

Trials will also be held on April 21 from 7 a.m. to pick the state youth (boys and girls under 16 years) probables for the coaching camp, also at the above venue from April 22 to May 5.

The state squads will take part in the youth Nationals at the Mastan YMCA, Mumbai. G.M. Sampath Kumar, General Secretary, HDBA has more details.

Coaching camp

The HDBA will also conduct a coaching camp for boys and girls between 13 and 16 years of age at the aforementioned venue from April 6.
