Yoga camp for prisoners

TIRUCHI: The Prisons Department in association with Universal Peace Foundation, Coimbatore, is conducting a yoga camp for the inmates of the Central Prison here in batches.

The programme commenced on April 1 will conclude on April 7.

Around 50 convicts are attending the camp. Various ‘asanas’ and breathing exercises are being taught by a master in the morning, say prison authorities.

The camp will be conducted over the next couple of months to cover majority of the convicts, say the authorities. The camp had been organised to enable prisoners to get over negative thoughts and improve their physical and mental health. It is also an effort to transform their lives once they were out of the prison, said the authorities.
