HYDERABAD: Despite difficult financial conditions, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), Ramachandrapuram, has scaled new heights in performance on all fronts---production, cash collection, introduction of new technologies, product development and process improvement. Executive Director K.L. Vasudeva Rao told a press conference here on Saturday that the unit achieved the highest-ever turnover of Rs.3,934 crore, with 27 per cent increase over last year’s production. Its profit for 2008-09 was Rs.756 crore. The turnover target for 2009-10 financial year would be Rs.5,432 crore. The unit secured export orders worth Rs.591 crore from Sendon Senegal, Africa, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and Dubai. It was introducing continuously new technologies like gas turbines. The first gas turbine was supplied to a Gujarat firm. With this, BHEL had put the country on the map of most advanced combined cycle plants, with efficiency of around 58 per cent. He said performance of the equipment and prompt services to customers were reflected in heavy orders with outstanding value of Rs.13,453 crore at the unit level and 46 per cent increase over last year. The in-house products developed included single cylinder 120 MW reheat steam turbine, low capacity CO2 compressor train, eight-stage boiler feed pump for the Neyveli Power Station, independent rotary drive for deep drilling rigs, pulverisers for steel industry. The unit was in the process of investing around Rs.600 crore for the products being manufactured at Hyderabad. This would enhance the capacity of BHEL Corporate as a whole to 15,000 MW by December.
