Educational curricula need to be changed: VC

TIRUCHI: Educational curricula across the country needed to be changed for meeting the higher educational needs, the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, K. Meer Mustafa Hussain, said.

Delivering the convocation address at the Aiman College of Arts and Science for Women here on Saturday, Dr. Hussain said that students’ empowerment would contribute to the economic growth of a nation.

In this context, he referred to the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission for stepping up the Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) in higher education to 15 per cent and above by the turn of 2015.

To achieve the goals of nation’s economic growth, a good educational model was the need of the hour.

He specifically underlined the need for developing agriculture, manufacturing and service sectors for achieving economic prosperity of our country.

To achieve this goal, the youths should be motivated to take maximum utilisation of latest technology.

Promote research by students

Efforts should be made for promotion of research by students.

Dr. Hussain appealed to students not to be complacent with their achievement in under graudate courses but to pursue higher education.

The Principal of the College K. Rajab Fathima and the General Secretary of the College K.M.I. Seyed Jaafar were among those present.

Earlier, Dr. Hussain conferred the degree on 110 students and gave away prizes to the University rank-holders.
