‘Misused power’: BJYM activists demonstrating in the Capital on Saturday protesting against remarks about Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

NEW DELHI: To protest against the invocation of the National Security Act on the BJP candidate for Lok Sabha from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists held a demonstration at Jantar Mantar here on Saturday. The protesters, led by BJYM president Amit Thakkar and Delhi State BJYM chief Anuj Sharma, described it as a conspiracy of the Centre here and Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Thakkar warned that if Varun Gandhi was not released soon, thousands of youth workers from Delhi would go to Etah, where he is now lodged in a jail.

Mr. Sharma said the youth of Delhi were “with Varun against the injustice committed by the autocratic regimes”.

The protesters also burnt an effigy of UP Chief Minister Mayawati to register their protest.
