Time for a fair deal

Elections are around again and the campaign by different political parties is nearing momentum. Amid this busy affair however, the women lose yet another chance to be join the mainstream in politics. They are hardly in the fray. Take for example the Sambalpur district in Orissa, no major political party has fielded women candidates that they could term winnable.

I am yet to understand why do the parties wait till constitutional mandates to offer women their justified share in the Assembly and Parliament. After all, women constitute nearly half of the population and why should the men decide for them still? Another important aspect to discuss would be the rank in politics.

Before the last panchayati raj elections I had interacted with several potential women candidates and most of them aspired to rise in the ranks to become a Minister at some point of the career. However, the way the mainstream politics is going at the moment, I don’t think during the next century or so these women of the remote tribal and underdeveloped villages will ever get to those higher ranks in politics. Put in other words, real development at grassroots will have to wait to happen in this country.

Tackling terrorism

Terrorism is in any form is dangerous and damaging the reputation and progress of the country. The Government of India is spending highest sum on Defence to combat terrorism. After Independence extremism has rapidly increased manifold. Every second day in our country there are blasts, killings and mass killings and in spite of our heavy expenditure to counter the menace, we are helpless and looking to the help of other countries and diplomacy is not giving any fruitful results. The U.S.A. has experienced only 11/9 incident ,whereas time and again our country is facing such incidents.

The terrorism has taken the lives of two Prime Ministers & many innocent people and it seems no body is safe. The recent Mumbai attacks are the example and our foreign guests are also not safe whereas a good amount we are getting from tourism industry.

This will interrupt the progress of the country and diverted the attention from the development and industrialization for which we are failing to compete with the rest of the world.

Secondly , the financial terrorism, the recent Satyam scam is another blow. The act of its chief is no less harmful than the act of extremists. Both Satyam scam and the attack on Hotel Taj, Oberoi & Trident are equal and in both cases the nation and the society will suffer and pay a heavy price.

This is high time to tackle effectively the menaces and a super audit in every corporate house is the need of the hour.
