Independent candidate in Nampally arrested

HYDERABAD: Yousuf, an independent contestant from Nampally constituency, was arrested by the Humayunnagar police on Sunday on charge of threatening to kill a person Mohan for campaigning for the Praja Rajyam’s candidate.

Yousuf is already facing several criminal cases of extortion, assault and criminal intimidation in different police stations in the city. He intercepted Praja Rajyam activist Mohan at Humayunnagar on Saturday evening and threatened him not to campaign.

Yousuf threatened to kill Mohan’s family members as well if he did not stop, Inspector B. Pratap Kumar said. A case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code was registered against him.
