Lift carrying over 20 persons gets stuck

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed on the third floor of the Paediatric block at Government Stanley Hospital on Sunday morning after a lift there with several persons inside got stuck midway.

Police said the incident occurred around 2 p.m. when the lift carrying over 20 people, including some patients, from the first floor to the top floor of the 8-storey building stopped in the middle. Hearing the cries of those trapped inside, the hospital staff alerted the Fire and Rescue Services.

But before the personnel arrived, the hospital staff with the assistance of some visitors to the hospital broke open the lift door and brought out those trapped inside, police added.
