Pallivetta tonight; Pampa ready for Arat

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Pallivetta will be held at Saramkuthi around Tuesday midnight ahead of Arat the next day, when the 10-day festival at the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala ends.

Utsavabali and Sreebhoothabali will end on Tuesday. Arat will be held at Pampa.

The Ayyappa idol will be taken there in procession on Wednesday morning.

Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, assisted by Melsanthi N. Vishnu Namboodiri, will perform Aratpuja and Utchapuja between 11.30 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. at a ghat on the Pampa river.

Festival flag

The idol will be kept at the Pampa Ganapati Temple for devotees to have darshan till 3.30 p.m. before being taken back to the Sannidhanam in procession.

The Tantri will bring down the festival flag as soon as the procession reaches Sabarimala. The temple will be closed after Athazhapuja.

Vishu

The temple will reopen on Friday afternoon for the Vishu festival beginning the next morning.

Vishukkani darshan will be from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. on April 14. The temple will be closed on April 18.

Water released

The Kerala State Electricity Board released 25,000 million cubic metres of water into the Pampa from the Kullar dam, upstream the river, on Monday.

Officials of the board said water had been released for the Arat.

The river was almost dry at Pampa-Triveni, depleting groundwater.
