‘MPs became chief ministers’

Special Correspondent

Gulbarga: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly M. Mallikarjun Kharge who is also the Congress candidate from Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency said on Monday that there was not anything wrong in him saying that nothing would stop him from becoming the Chief Minister even if he was elected in Lok Sabha poll.

Mr. Kharge told The Hindu that there was no need for Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to comment on his statement while campaigning in Gulbarga on Sunday.

Mr. Yeddyurappa reportedly referred to Mr. Kharge’s statement and said, “Mr. Kharge is still in the hope of becoming the Chief Minister. Do not disappoint him by electing him to the Lok Sabha, let him be in the State as an MLA”. Mr. Kharge said in several instances sitting MPs had relinquished their post to assume office of Chief Minister. “Nobody can stop me from returning to State politics,” he said.
