This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru declared in Allahabad, on April 6 that although they had full sympathy with Tibet, they did not want to take any action which would in any way affect the 2,000-year-old friendship between India and China. Mr. Nehru briefly referred to the recent developments in Tibet and said “you might have heard that the Dalai Lama of Tibet has entered India a few days back. He asked for permission from me to enter India. I gladly gave him the permission. He has entered India after trekking a very hard journey.” The Prime Minister said “the developments in Tibet have created a very complicated problem for us. While we have our full sympathy with Tibet, we also want to keep our friendship with China.”
