Corrections and clarifications

The introductory paragraph of an article “‘We are targeting young, educated voters’” (“Talking Heads – Elections 2009” page, April 3, 2009) was “BJP vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu ….” Mr. Naidu is not one of the 11 vice-presidents of the BJP. He is one of the senior leaders and a past president of the party. He is also a member of the party’s Parliamentary Board.

The second paragraph of report “Supreme Court upholds the election of Khader Mohideen” (Tamil Nadu, April 4, 2009) was “A Bench of Justice D.K. Jain and Justice R.M. Lodha dismissed an appeal filed by G.S. Iqbal, a defeated candidate, who alleged that there was improper acceptance of the nomination of Mr. Mohideen, who defeated his AIADMK rival P. Santhanam by about 1.78 lakh votes.” G.S. Iqbal is not a defeated candidate. He was an elector (voter) in the Vellore Parliamentary Constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha polls in 2004.
