Drag racers arrested

Bangalore: The Bangalore City Police have arrested a drag racer for allegedly exhibiting his racing skills on Cubbon Road here on Saturday.

The police seized a two-wheeler from Samuel (21), a resident of R.T. Nagar and who is pursuing his graduation in a private college. The accused had participated in a race event in Nandi Hills on Saturday.

After returning to the city from Nandi Hills, he allegedly exhibited his racing skills on various roads.

The police have also arrested a few students from various colleges on Saturday night for allegedly indulging in drag racing.

They recovered seven two-wheelers and two cars from the accused.

On receiving information that some youth were indulging in drag racing, we conducted a drive at Shivajinagar, Cubbon Park, CTO Circle, Anil Kumble Circle, M.G. Road and at other places in the city and rounded up the accused, an officer said.

The accused were charged with rash and negligent driving, failing to wear helmets and allegedly causing fear among the public with reckless driving.

On the other hand, the police simultaneously conducted special drives against traffic violators and booked 978 cases on charges of drunken driving, for using dazzling headlights, signal jumping, reckless driving and driving against one ways, the officer said.
