Sonia has assets worth Rs. 1.34 crore

RAE BARELI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s has assets worth around Rs.1.34 crore but like her son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, she also does not own a vehicle. Ms. Gandhi also does not own a house, apartment or a commercial establishment.

The sworn affidavit filed by Ms. Gandhi on Monday before Anita C. Meshram, Returning Officer of the Rae Bareli Parliamentary constituency, states that she has Rs. 75,000 in cash and deposited Rs. 28,61,660.89 in UCO Bank. She has invested Rs. 20 lakh in mutual funds and Rs. 12 lakh in Reserve Bank of India bonds and has 10 shares of the Maruti Technical Services Private Limited (unquoted) and 500 shares of the Western India Tanneries Limited.

Ms. Gandhi has Rs. 1,99,380 in National Savings Certificates certificates and Rs. 24,88,887.39 with interest in Public Provident Fund. The gross weight of her jewellery is 2,518.450 grams, valued at Rs. 11,08,100 and 88 kg of silverware is valued at Rs. 18,37,440 as on March 31, 2008.

As regards her immovable assets, Ms. Gandhi owns three bighas of land in Dera Mandi village and 12 bighas and 15 biswas in Sultanpur, having a total value of Rs. 2,19,300 (as per wealth tax return as on March 31, 2008.). Ms. Gandhi’s ancestral house in Italy is valued at Rs. 18.05 lakh (as per the wealth tax return as on March 31, 2008).

A sum of Rs 5,58,191 was paid as income-tax and Rs. 32,512 as wealth tax for the assessment year 2008-09.

She completed a three-year course in English and French in 1964 from Instituto Santa Teresa Via Santa Teresa in Turin and has a certificate in English from Lennox Cook School, Cambridge, which was completed in 1965.
