Won’t campaign against Sonia, Rahul: Varun

Amethi: They may be on the other side of the political fence but when it comes to family matters, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi has high regard for his aunt Congress president Sonia Gandhi and cousin Rahul and will not campaign against them in Amethi and Rae Bareli.

This was revealed to journalists by Tejbhan Singh, member of BJP’s national council.

Mr. Singh said that last month he met Mr. Varun Gandhi and requested him to campaign for party candidates. “He [Varun] had clearly stated that he would not campaign in Rae Bareli and Amethi,” Mr. Singh said.

BJP candidate from Amethi Pradip Singh alleged that the Gandhi family had been fooling the people of the region and the present state of affairs of roads and the condition of other basic amenities were a clear evidence. He said only the BJP could provide an alternative that the people of Amethi were looking for.

Questioned on the point that the Ram temple issue was always raked up at election time by the BJP, Mr. Tejbhan Singh said it had always been the party’s agenda. “The mosque was pulled down when there was a majority government of the party in the State and Ram temple would be constructed when a majority government comes to power again,” he added. — PTI
