Sirsi: There is no Act for the management of “betta” land (minor forest) in Uttara Kannada district. “Betta” land also called “soppina betta” has special relation with arecanut cultivation. Hence, it should be considered under the Environmental Act, said eco-scientist Vasudev of the Forestry College in Sirsi.

He was speaking at workshop on “soppina betta” conservation and development on the premises of Bhairumbhe Seva Sahakari Sangh on Tuesday under the auspices of Sharadamba Shikshan and Grameenabhivruddhi Samsthe, Parisara Vijnana Kendra, TSS Sirsi and Kadamba Marketing, Sirsi.
