CHENNAI: Electronic security has emerged as one of the toughest challenges of the future, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) Vice-Chancellor Lalit M. Patnaik said on Wednesday. He was speaking at the inauguration of ‘NCMEC-2009’, a two-day national conference on microelectronics and communication organised by SRM University.
“No need to fight a war…if the security data is hacked, everything will come to a standstill. In e-ticket bookings in Railways, Airways, banking and credit card access, everything will be paralysed if the security data is hacked,” he said, emphasising that hackers posed a major threat in the age of wireless technology.
Speaking of the global meltdown and the slowdown faced by IT companies, Prof.Patnaik said there were several opportunities in strategic sectors such as defence, atomic energy and space.
Stressing on the importance of recruiting good faculty, Prof. Patnaik said universities could consider recruiting super-annuated experts from different fields, instead of recruiting young faculty.
SRM University Vice-Chancellor P. Sathyanarayanan also spoke on the occasion.
