BANGALORE: For the second IPL season, which gets underway in South Africa, Royal Challengers Bangalore would have a new cheerleading team rooting for it. In the inaugural season in 2008, it was Washington Redskins cheerleading team, which backed the RCB squad, but Varsity Cheerleaders from the United States is the new squad which will do the kick and roll routine. The team, consisting of 24 girls, all drawn from American universities and high schools, will be in town and demonstrate its skills at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 13, before leaving for South Africa. DTDC in final DTDC Sports Club entered the final of the Karnataka State Industries Sports and Arts Association’s cricket tournament with a five-wicket win over State Bank of Mysore here. Batting first, SBM made 164 for five in 25 overs with M.K. Manjunath top scoring with 66. DTDC reached the target in 24.4 overs, thanks to a spirited knock of 78 by A. Rakesh. The scores: State Bank of Mysore 164 for five in 25 overs (M.K. Manjunath 66, Amith Verma 46) lost to DTDC Sports Club 166 for five in 24.4 overs (A. Rakesh 78). BEML thrashes LRDEBEML came up firing from all cylinders against a hapless LRDE for tennis score line (6-0) in the Super Division football league at the football stadium here on Thursday. LRDE was reduced to 10 men by the 37th minute when referee Balasubramaniam gave marching orders to Ajit (LRDE) for kicking a prostrate Jotin Singh of BEML. Jotin struck two quick goals after the incident to add to LRDE’s woes. It was Samuel Jackson, BEML’s foreign recruit, who started the goal glut with a strike in the very first minute following the kick-off and added another in the 36th. Towards the end Sanath Kumar (80th) and Wilfred (83rd) completed the rout. BEML with this win have 11 points from six outings (three wins, two draw) while LRDE languish with just five points from seven matches (one win, two draw). Earlier, Dharmaraja Union scored an emphatic 4-2 win over AGORC to remain a point behind A division league leaders ISRO, with 19 points from eight outings. ISRO, however, has played one match more (20 points from nine outings). Rohan (15th), John (38th), Marvin (82nd) and Allwyn (85th) scored for Dharmaraja Union while Stephen (ninth) and Sharath 89th) struck for AGORC. Meanwhile, in a meeting between the BDFA officials, team managers of all the participating teams and the referees, held recently it was decided to `forget and forgive’. Also the need for proper medical facility and ambulance service at the ground was demanded by the team management. Green’s clinicFormer NBA star A.C. Green conducted a two-hour clinic for 45-odd girls at the Mary Immaculate School courts. The 45-year-old LA Lakers and Phoenix Suns playmaker is in Bangalore for a brief interaction with the youth as part of the NBA Cares’ long-term commitment to help promote the game in the country. About 35 girls from the school and nearly 10 girls from Bishop Cottons participated. “It’s very interesting as we are taught new skills, through variety of drills that will make us better players,” said S.U. Vindhya, school’s basketball team captain. Audi golfThe Bangalore leg of the Audi Quattro corporate golf championship will be held at Eagleton Golf Resort course in Bidadi near here on April 11. Earlier the event was held at Mumbai, New Delhi and Chandigarh . The Bangalore tournament will be followed by an event in Pune on April 19. The top three teams in each of the five regional legs, will compete in the all-India finals, scheduled to be held in October and the winning team gets to play in the World finals at Sydney in December.
